Kayaks on the lake

Lake Oconee is more than a shimmering backdrop here - it becomes part of your life. Morning mist rises to reveal waking wildlife. The happy laughter of children rings out across the lake in the afternoon as boats sculpt rippling paths through the glassy surface. At dusk, the lake is dressed in golf and diamonds as the sun sets with a flourish.

Oconee is the Creek Indian word meaning "great waters." However, the Creeks, who inhabited the area for some 250 years prior to the signing of the Shoulderbone Treaty in 1786, had no idea just how great these waters would become with the damming of the Oconee River. Perfect for all types of watersports, from boating and sailing to swimming and skiing, the waters of Lake Oconee are best known for excellent fishing.
